Royal Match Stars, Tasks, Areas, and Area Chests
Understand how level wins become stars, how stars complete castle tasks, when a new area unlocks, and what an Area Chest can contain.
By RoyalMatch.wiki Editorial Team
Stars connect Royal Match's puzzle levels to the renovation of King Robert's castle. A level win gives you a star, stars pay for tasks, tasks complete an area, and a completed area unlocks both a chest and the next part of the castle.
Nothing in this system requires guessing, but several counters appear on different screens. This guide explains what each one means.
Progression at a glance
Complete a match-3 level.
Receive one star.
Open the current area's task list.
Spend the required stars on a task.
Continue until Area Progress reaches 100 percent.
Open the Area Chest.
Unlock and enter the next area.
The star is progression currency for castle tasks. Coins, boosters, lives, cards, and event currencies have different purposes.
How to get stars
The official Help Center gives a simple rule: every time you beat a level, you receive a star.
That means:
A failed attempt does not advance star progress.
A hard-level label does not change the basic one-star rule documented for normal area progression.
Playing a Royal League round is a separate endgame context; the regular star-and-area loop resumes when new levels and areas publish.
Active events may award their own progress from the same level win, but that event currency is not a replacement for stars.
What tasks are
Tasks describe what can be built or improved in the current area. Every area contains a set number of tasks, and each task requires stars.
A task may advance a room, garden, attraction, or decorative scene. The exact presentation changes by area, but the underlying flow stays consistent: collect stars through levels, then spend them on the listed work.
Do task choices change the puzzle game?
Tasks advance the renovation layer. They do not change the targets or move count of the regular level you already completed.
Can stars be saved?
You can hold stars until you are ready to spend them. Saving stars does not reduce the stated task cost or unlock the next area early; all required tasks still need to be completed.
How to check Area Progress
The official guide directs players to the Area button on the home screen. That view shows current progress.
When Area Progress reaches 100 percent:
Every required task for that area is complete.
The Area Chest becomes available.
The next area can be unlocked through the New Area action.
If the progress bar is below 100 percent, open the task list and look for uncompleted work. Having stars in the balance is not the same as spending them.
Area Chests
Dream Games says completing all tasks in an area allows you to open an Area Chest containing:
Coins.
Boosters.
Cards.
Check the chest preview in your game to see its rewards before planning around them.
Area Chests can help you make progress elsewhere in the game:
Coins help with extra moves, lives, and boosters.
Boosters support difficult levels.
Cards advance the active Collection after that feature unlocks.
Read How to Get Free Coins Safely and the Card Collections Guide for those systems.
Unlocking a new area
Once every task is complete, use the New Area button on the home screen to continue.
New areas introduce different castle settings and visual stories. Dream Games' official Royal Match page gives examples ranging from traditional rooms such as the Throne Room and Observatory to playful spaces such as a Bowling Alley, Aqua Room, and Candy Shop.
Area names and the latest available area are live-content facts. They should be dated when discussed in an update post. For example, the July 2026 release notes identify Tea House as a new area in that update. See the July 2026 update.
Revisiting completed areas
The official Tasks and Areas section says the Areas button can display completed areas. Choosing View opens the selected completed area.
Revisiting is useful when you want to:
See an earlier renovation.
Compare the castle's visual progression.
Find a favorite area without changing level progress.
It does not reset tasks or provide a second Area Chest.
Stars and the latest-level limit
Royal Match adds new levels periodically. The official current cadence is every two weeks.
After completing all available levels and area tasks, eligible players enter Royal League. Royal League uses rounds and crowns rather than advancing a new castle area. When new levels publish, Royal League ends and the normal progression cycle resumes.
The distinction is explained in How Many Levels Are in Royal Match?.
Practical progression strategy
Before spending stars:
Spend stars before assuming progress is blocked
If no new area appears, check for unfinished tasks. A balance of stars does not count toward Area Progress until the tasks are completed.
Claim the chest before a resource purchase
If the area is one task from completion, finishing it may provide coins or boosters you were about to buy.
Stack multiple task scenes if you prefer
Some players enjoy spending stars immediately; others save several and watch a longer renovation sequence. Both approaches reach the same required task total.
Coordinate area completion with Collections
Area Chests can contain cards. When a Collection is active, the chest may also advance that system. This does not justify delaying forever, because Collection deadlines are time-limited.
Frequently asked questions
How many stars does one level give?
The official Help Center says every beaten level gives one star.
Can I choose a different area before finishing the current one?
The documented progression requires completing all tasks in the current area before unlocking the next one. Completed areas can be viewed separately.
Why is the next area not available?
Check whether every task has actually been completed and Area Progress shows 100 percent. Also make sure the game is updated if you are at the end of currently available content.
Can an Area Chest contain cards before Collection unlocks?
The current help material lists cards among Area Chest rewards and Collection unlocks at level 41. The current in-game reward screen is the safest source for what your account can receive at a particular point.
Does a Hard level award more stars?
The current official star article states one star per beaten level and does not document a higher regular-star award for difficulty.
Do stars expire?
The reviewed official Tasks and Areas section does not describe a seasonal expiration for normal stars. Event currencies and Collection progress follow separate time-limited rules.
